Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society

Regional News and Projects

There's a lot of sustainable agriculture happening in Maine and the Northeast, and we often hear the question, "Who's doing what?" We hope that this site will help you find out more about what other producers, researchers, and community groups are working on.

In the future we will be updating this site with information on a variety of interesting local efforts, such as...

Renewable energy projects:
  • Oilseed crops and presses
  • Energy saving fans in dairy barns
  • Solar dye for fiber products

Reduction of purchased inputs (feed, fertilizer, pest/disease prevention, etc.):
  • Potato-dairy partnerships
  • Growing beets and other root fooder crops instead of purchasing grains
  • Cover crop programs
  • On-farm organic dairy feed production

Marketing and distribution projects:
  • Farm Fresh Connection, Crown o' Maine, and other local product distribution companies.
  • Online brokering and online farmers markets
